As Nader working at a bank, he hires a young pregnant woman, Razieh, to take care of his father. Razieh accepting without letting her husband know about the job, just for the sake of their financially backed family but usually husband’s approval is strictly recommended as per rules of the country.

On the first day itself, Razieh feels unbearable to look after Nader’s father because he is so incontinent, walks out of the home to buy newspaper all by himself who is nearly out of mind. She requesting Nader that her husband, Houjat, would be suitable to take care of his father because both are men. But unfortunately Houjat is put in jail by the debtors because of his heavily debt. So Razieh continuous her job as usually.

When Nader and Termeh comes home evening, shocked to see the old father fell down from his bed unconsciously and his left hand has been tied in the bar of the bed. Razieh returns with her daughter later and reasoning that she went out for an urgent work, but Nader rampaging Razieh for her laziness, blaming her for the stolen money in his bag and furiously pushes her out of his home. By which, She slips and stumbles on the staircase and shouting that she is innocent.

Next day, Simin getting a call from Razieh’s sister that Razieh suffers from miscarriage. By knowing that Nader who caused this to Razieh, Houjat quarrelling to Nader and appealing a crime accuse on Nader. The case goes interior without finding the exact truth because all having a justification with their own. If it is proved that Nader pushed her out with his own knowledge that she had been carrying, he will be sentenced to prison for three years.

But Nader says he doesn’t know about her pregnancy and he pushed her just like that because of her lazyness. Razieh offending he is well known of her pregnancy because he overheard from kitchen when she was saying about it to Simin earlier. Thus the case goes with confusion on both sides, Simin request Razieh to convince her husband to end the issue smoothly with certain compensation. But the truth reveals transparently when Nader asks Razieh to swear on Quran that is he responsible for her miscarriage and Razieh ignores to do because she fears it’s a sin. The money has not been compensated eventually.

Then again, the scene turns to courtroom where the divorce of Nader and Simin has been approved. When the daughter Termeh have been asked to choose with whom she wants to live furtherly, she asks her parents to go outside and the movie ends with her decision unrevealed when Nader and Simin waits outside.

MAKER’s PART:
Asghar Farhadi, a veteran Iranian filmmaker written and directed this heart burdening tale. He narrated like every character has a point of view and justice of their own throughout the movie. So even when one looks blame and other looks innocent in each and every scene, we can realize eventually that none is responsible for all the happenings because of their innocence from their point of view. Castings are obviously realistic and lively which let us seriously involve as the movie goes. Sarina Farhadi, who did the role of eleven year old daughter Termeh is the own daughter of Asghar Farhadi and she did her part silently well. Especially when she asks her father tearfully about his lies on his knowledge on Razieh’s pregnancy her reactions goes quietly high.
